Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day!
I hope all the mothers among you were treated well today and got the appreciation you deserve!

I always associate purples and blues, and violet, iris and lavender scents with my mother: If she were ever to be a perfume wearer, I would imagine her wearing l'Herue Bleue or Apres l'Ondee. The violets and heliotrope in both are exactly what I associate with motherhood: tenderness and mystery.

Today I wore Indigo, the perfume I created for my mother. At its heart are violets, supported by boronia and iris, the spiciness of carnation and the opulence of orange blossom. It's an odd perfume in my collection and not really accessible. The top notes are strange: caraway and anise. But they really complement the unusual boronia and violet perfectly. The base is incense and amber with suave cedarwood from the Himalayas.

What scents do you associate with motherhood, and which perfume did you wear today? Comment and enter to win a sample of Indigo perfume!

Indigo sounds gorgeous!!

I don't think there is just one scent I associate with motherhood..Iris Poudre reminds me of silk sarees and therefore of my mom and grand mom..My mom loves fidji (also Andy Tauer's Lair du Morrocain smells lovely on her)

Today, I wore a bit of Montale's white oud and a tiny spray of Un Lys..

Euzida,
I love Diorissimo!
It's perfect to wear in May too, because that's when the lily of the valley is in bloom :-)
How does Pomegranate Splash smell like? Haven't seen it anywhere.

Lavanya,
It's interesting that you associate something powdery too... Though I would have never thought of associating Iris Poudre with silk saree!
Your mother has a wonderful taste in perfumes :-) And so do you! I still regret not getting a big white floral from Salons de Palais Royal in Paris last year... I shoulda taken home a Tubereuse Criminelle but I didn't.

Ayala- I am not sure why I associate Iris Poudre with silk saree- because of its classic elegance maybe?

ooh- Tubereuse Criminelle is my favorite Lutens and is on my must buy list if and when I'm in Paris..:)- it is the only tuberose soliflore that evokes the flower for me (tuberose is my favorite flower. and my mother's)

I made a perfume for my mom for mother's day too. I called it 'Heaven' and it is a blend of amber, ylang ylang, frankincense, sandalwood, rock rose, myrrh, vetiver, ... and lots of other stuff :) I named it 'Heaven' because when my mom first smelled my amber collection she said 'that must be what heaven smells like.'

I wore a scent I made myself. It's No. 7 for lack of a name. Included is Cardamom, Blood Orange, Pink Grapefruit, Rooibos, Violet Leaves, Rose, Jasmine, Benzoin, Helichrysum, Vetiver, and a 5 blend Vanilla that I tinctured myself.

My mom's favorite is Chanel No. 5

Lavanya,
I love fresh cut stems of tuberose in the house when they are available at the florist's. They make the whole house smell divine after nightfall...

Gretchen,
Way to go for the amber perfume, it sounds heavenly indeed! Your mother is lucky to have such an appreciative daughter :-)

MamaG,
Your blend is very unusual! These notes would be tricky to put together harmoniously.

Lovely bluebell flowers! Wish I can also have that in my garden. Anyway, I also gave my mom a bouquet of flowers last mothers day.

When I smell White shoulders and Jafra- the almond scent lotion, I think of my Mom. Those were her favorite scents when I was a child.
Today I wore a new perfume from Victoria Jess off Etsy. The perfume For Always, it is really a beautiful perfume.

When I think of perfume and my mother, I have a couple of scents in mind:

Gardenia.. she always loved tghe smell of this.

Almond oil--she had this after bath almond oil that she loved.

Lily of the Valley-- she had this soliflore fragrance she wore on and off.

Tea Rose-- another favorite of hers.

The most representative though had to be this unnamed violet perfume she picked up in france. I have never smelled anything like it (that dried down the same) before or since. It smells just like Penhaligon's in the bottle but dried down the same as that as well. It was.. wonderful.
